LDRS 301 Lifelong Learning Strategies in Leadership

Class begins Tues., Jan. 19. Ends Feb. 23.
Students are introduced to learning methods that will ensure academic and personal learning success for a lifetime of leadership development and application. Topics include building a personal knowledge profile, application of personal assessment tools, concepts of personal mastery, learning styles and competencies. Topics in leadership include the definition of good leadership, the difference between leadership and management, why leadership is necessary in organizations, and the importance of learning in organizations.
LDRS 320 Ethical Decision-Making
Instructors: Lachlan Whetley
Class begins Tues., Feb. 2. Ends March 9.
An exploration of ethical decision-making in a business environment. It includes examination of individual, organizational, and macro-level issues in ethics. The course does not determine correct ethical action; it is designed to promote the understanding of the role of values and ethics as leaders formulate strategies for motivating, communicating, utilizing power and developing followers.
LDRS 303 Contemporary and Popular Approaches in Leadership
Instructor: Gabriele Cuff
Class begins Tues., March 16. Ends April 20.
This course is designed to provide an overview of contemporary and popular approaches that have influenced current movements in leadership and management trends. It concentrates on influences from the 1990s to current trends. Organized around themes, learners are exposed to a variety of contemporary approaches to leadership that focus on psychodynamic approaches, individual and organizational values, ethical relational orientations, emotional intelligence, and other aspects that have had a significant impact in defining current interpretations of leadership. Emphasizing the necessity of understanding self as the foundation of contemporary leadership, experiential learning techniques are used throughout the course to expose learners to a variety of concepts that assist them in building a knowledge bank of contemporary approaches and practical tools for leadership and management application.
LDRS 310 The Learning Organization
Instructor: Mark Halvorson
Class begins Tues., April 27. Ends June 1.
In the knowledge age, understanding the creation, throughput, flow and analysis of information is one of the most critical aspects of organizational learning. The course introduces learners to appreciating the strategic importance of managing the people and information in the systematic development of learning organizations. Strategic information management focuses on identifying, defining and operationalizing data to maximize preselected output criteria. Using systems theory, the role of fast feedback loops and revision criteria are defined and implemented. The alignment of organizational values, vision, mission, information and technology are discussed as learners grapple with how to integrate all aspects of organizational knowledge into a comprehensive and iterative learning organization.
